Forum: GratefulDead Subject: can you have too MANY Dead shows?

This question was posed to me a few days ago. Since the wonder that is the Archive is here and a few other sites and friends we meet along the way, it is far easier to get grate shows and listen to them. So here is the question i put before you.

Should we stop and enjoy the shows we have(476 so far...LOL) or keep collecting,as in keeping our OWN archive???

PEACE:Skippy61

I said I'd stop after 500... I've DL'd a few more since them. Last count was 515.

My listening technique... Close eyes, scroll down, pick a show/folder. No particular era, but partial to mid-70s.

Currently listening to...
07-MAY-1970...
Venue: Dupont Gymnasium M.I.T.
Location: Cambridge, MA

Good question Skippy61. With the disappearance of the downloadable sdbs, gdlive, grateful.org, deadshow, I increased my download rate just in case. For reasons already stated by others and also because I want to be sure my kids have access to the music when they get older. With the gd cyber community being so strong, I don't think I need to worry!

No, I don't think so. In relation to some of my old habits, collecting Dead shows is pretty mild. For myself, I know that I have more than enough to listen to for my lifetime, but then that Mindbender guy starts uploading lossless shows at gdfiles.com. Now I'm going back over the old stuff and seeing if it's an upgrade for me or not.

I think we're all on the bus and it's not going to stop for us to get off.

Yeah Tito, all you did was say Phil & Friends sucked and everybody jumped down your throat? You never attack anybody here for no reason do you Tito? Always the victim aren't you Tito? Poor, misunderstood Tito.

How do you justify making fun of another posters name? Ridicule at other peoples expense is pretty weak Tito.

Of course you don't care what I say Tito. If you did, that would mean you would have to take responsibility for your actions.
And every one here knows that you don't do that.

I found after a certain point people just give them to you and they add up anyway. I used to have a saying in the non-digital era.

"Tapes make tapes. But you can't beat being there."

we are all spoiled to the core. me, i said i'd quit at 100 shows. i have 300 , so that didn't work. now, i'm goin for 500. after that, who knows. if all goes well, i'll have about 50 years to listen to them, the good lord willing, if he says i may. no matter what happens concerning the legality of gd shows being hosted, kind people will always spread the shows around. too many? depends on how many were played from 67 to 74! can't go wrong with all pre hiatus shows, as i'm still finding out.
